Right to Information Act

The Right To Information Act 2005 was passed by the parliament on 15th June 2005. The Act mandates that organizations defined as “Public Authorities” are obliged to provide information to
the public and create necessary arrangements in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority.

The Right to Information Act, 2005 (22 of 2005) has been enacted by the Parliament and has come into force from 15 June, 2005. In order to encourage accountability and transparency in the operations of all public authorities, this Act grants citizens the right to obtain information under their jurisdiction. According to this Act, any university or college that was founded by legislation passed by the state legislature, parliament, or the relevant government, or that is owned, controlled, or significantly financed either directly or indirectly by government funds, qualifies as a public authority. While some of this act's provisions went into effect right away when it was passed, on June 15, 2005, other parts will take effect 100 or 120 days after that date.
