Literary & Book Club (LITOME)

LITOME (aka The Literary Club and The Book Club) of Sree Sankara College, Kilimanoor organised offline and online programmes to encourage students to read books and to ignite their
literary interests.
 
Objectives:
 
  • To cultivate a reading culture among students.
  • To encourage creative writing, poetry, and storytelling.
  • To organize book discussions, literary competitions, and author interactions.
  • To enhance language skills, critical thinking, and literary appreciation.
  • To provide a platform for students to express their ideas and creativity through literature.
 
Activities:
 
On September 5, 2023 Litome observed Teachers’ Day by conducting Teaching Competition and Teachers’ Day Greeting Card Designing Competition at the college library. Thirty Students
participated in the competitions. However, students from the Department of Commerce achieved a sweeping victory over others. Miss Gopika R.S., S1 BCom and Miss Pranava O., S5 BCom bagged the First and Second Prize in the Teaching Competition respectively. Miss Sreelekshmi A.B.’s (S1 BCom) design got First Prize in the Teachers’ Day Greeting Card Designing
Competition whereas
 
Miss Gouri Prakash (S1 BCom) and Miss Gopika R.S. (S1 BCom) designs got Second Prize in the competition.
 
National Library Week – from 14 November 2023 to 20 November 2023: Litome organised a series of lectures, both offline and online, in connection with the National Library Week.
 
  • Mr Banna Chennamangalloor inaugurated the lecture series on 14 November 2023 by delivering the first lecture via Google Meet. The online session which started at 10 AM was presented at the college library through overhead projector. Mr Benna’s thoughts on bookish and practical knowledge were quite interesting. Though a Higher Secondary Teacher, he is well known for his artistic endeavours such as reading stories, dubbing, acting, directing, anchoring etc.
  • Ms Neethu T.A., Librarian, Sree Sankara College gave the second lecture (offline) of the National Library Week Lecture Series on 15 September 2023. She explained her thoughts on the health benefits of reading books.
  • Dr Ratheesh Krishna, an eminent dramaturge, performer and visual arts trainer delivered the third lecture in the series on 16 September 2023. Dr Ratheesh Krishna’s views on the experience one gets from reading a book were unique. The audience, including the members of Litome, curiously engaged in the online session led by Dr. Ratheesh.
  • Mr Rakesh K. Nair, Senior Editor, Mathrubhumi presented the fourth lecture via Google Meet on 17 September 2023. He focussed his talk on the importance of reding newspapers.
  • Dr K. Radhakumari, Associate Professor and Head (Retd.), Dept of English, VTMNSS College, Dhanuvachapuram presented the fifth lecture in the series through Google Meet on 20 September 2023. The veteran lecturer shared her views on book reading to the students.
  • Ms Indulekshmi B., Joint Coordinator, Litome delivered the sixth and final talk of the series on 20 September 2023. She explained different ways of reading different genres of books.Further, she interacted with the students to clear their doubts and concluded the offline session with valedictory comments.
