Statutory Committees


Under the direction of Dr. Remya P. D. as Chairperson and Keerthi Krishna G. as Secretary, the SC/ST Cell of SSC College is essential to the empowerment and well-being of students from Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC). The cell is made up of devoted individuals who are committed to creating a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for marginalized students. An outline of the SC ST Cell's initiatives and operations is given in this report, along with the duties and responsibilities of its key members. Under the leadership and capacity as chairperson, Dr. Remya P. D. makes sure the cell runs smoothly and successfully to meet the needs of SC and ST students. As the Secretary of the SC ST Cell, Keerthi Krishna G. is in charge of organizing its operations and facilitating member communication. She is essential in planning activities and events that advance the welfare of SC/ST students.

To support the academic, social, and professional growth of SC and ST students, Sree Sankara College's SC ST Cell engages in a number of programs and events which includes:

• Counseling & Guidance: Offering SC and ST students counseling and guidance sessions to address their personal, professional, and academic issues. • Workshops for Skill Development: Planning training sessions and workshops to improve SC and ST students' employability abilities, such as interview preparation, resume writing, and communication skills.

The purpose of the student grievance cell is to uphold and foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment where students' rights are not violated. It is an effort to make college authorities more accountable and responsive so that there is no slack in providing students with equitable treatment. It involves handling complicated problems delicately in order to alleviate the oppressive or dissatisfied conditions. The Minority Cell of Sree Sankara College plays a crucial role in ensuring the welfare and empowerment of minority students and fostering tolerance, diversity, and cultural awareness within the college community, Under the direction of Dr. Motty G. S. as Convener and Dr. Remya P. D. as Chairperson, the cell works to address the unique needs and issues of minority students by offering advocacy, support, and guidance. In order to foster an inclusive atmosphere where all students can flourish, the cell sought to support minority students' academic, social, and professional growth.

An Equal Opportunity Cell in SSC is a body that promotes inclusivity, fairness, and equal access to educational opportunities for all students, especially those from marginalized or underrepresented groups.

Objectives:

• Promote Inclusivity: Ensure that students from different backgrounds (such as SC/ST, OBC, minorities, persons with disabilities, and economically weaker sections) get fair access to education and opportunities.
• Prevent Discrimination: Address cases of discrimination based on caste, gender, disability, or any other factor.

• Support for Students with Disabilities: Provide infrastructure and academic support for differently-abled students.
• Grievance Redressal: Act as a platform where students can report issues related to discrimination and seek resolutions.
• Scholarships and Financial Aid Guidance: Assist students in availing scholarships, financial aid, and government schemes.

The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDG) Cell has been established to support students facing economic hardships and social disadvantages by ensuring equal access to education, resources, and opportunities.

Objectives:

• To create awareness about various government and institutional welfare schemes.
• To provide academic and financial assistance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The PTA plays a vital role in maintaining a cordial atmosphere on the campus. The PTA of our college is robust and engaged, offering every assistance for the academic and infrastructure growth of the college. It provides the management and teachers with all the assistance they need to keep the college operating smoothly. As their child is admitted to college, every parent automatically become members of the association. The principal serves as the organization's president, and an elected parent member serves as vice president. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is made up of elected staff and parent members. The Executive Committee meets on a regular basis to evaluate the college's student welfare initiatives, and the General Body of the PTA meets once a year.

An Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has been constituted to handle workplace sexual harassment complaints in accordance with the UGC Regulations, 2015 read with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
A person's right to work and live in dignity is violated by sexual harassment. Sree Sankara College, Kilimanoor is dedicated to foster an atmosphere free from sexual harassment in both work and education.
ICC shall take sexual harassment seriously and take prompt action to address the issue. Depending on the type and seriousness of the reported behavior, disciplinary action will be made. The College will protect the privacy and anonymity of individuals who report or are accused of sexual harassment to the fullest degree possible. Special precautions will be taken to guarantee that the harasser, witnesses, and complainants do not experience discrimination or abuse while the investigation is underway. According to the applicable provisions of the previously mentioned UGC Regulations 2015, the complainant may face punishment if the ICC determines that the accusations were malicious or false, or that the complaint was made knowing it was false or that fabricated or misleading information was provided during the investigation.
This policy will apply to all members of Sree Sankara College, including students, teaching faculty, and administrative personnel, both contractual and temporary.

Ragging means display of noisy, disorderly conduct, doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment to a student in any educational institution. Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

(i) Any behavior, whether expressed orally or in writing, that has the effect of making fun of, treating rudely, or teasing a new student or another student.
(ii) Engaging in disruptive or disorderly behavior that causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, or to incite fear or apprehension thereof in any new student or other student.
(iii) Asking a student to perform an act that they would not perform in a regular course and that would cause them to feel ashamed, tormented, or embarrassed in a way that would negatively impact their physical or mental health or the physical health of any other student.
(iv) Taking advantage of a new student's or any other student's assistance to finish assignments that have been given to a person or group of people.
(v) Any behavior on the part of a senior that hinders, interferes with, or disturbs a freshmen or other students' regular academic work.
(vi) Any physical abuse act, including all of its variations, such as sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing lewd or obscene acts or gestures, causing bodily harm, or posing a risk to someone's health that requires attention.
(vii) Any act, with or without the intention of obtaining sadistic pleasure, that undermines the mental well-being and self-esteem of a freshman or any other student, or any act in which a student displays their dominance, power, or superiority over any other freshmen or student.
(viii) Any act of coercion to extract money from a junior student or an oppressive financial burden placed on them.

The Anti-Drug Abuse Cell in colleges plays a crucial role in fostering a drug-free campus and creating awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. With the increasing prevalence of drug-related issues among youth, these cells serve as proactive platforms for prevention, education, and rehabilitation.
Objectives of the Anti-Drug Abuse Cell:
• To create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
• To organize seminars, workshops, and campaigns in collaboration with health experts and law enforcement agencies.
• To provide counseling and support to students struggling with substance abuse.
• To encourage peer-led initiatives and student participation in spreading anti-drug messages.
• To coordinate with local authorities to ensure a safe and drug-free campus environment.

Facilities for differently abled


Sree Sankara College is committed in fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment for differently-abled individuals. The college has installed ramps at key locations to ensure smooth mobility for those using wheelchairs. These ramps are designed with appropriate slopes and railings to provide ease of access to classrooms and other essential facilities. Additionally, wheelchairs are available on campus to assist students and visitors with mobility challenges. The institution continuously strives to enhance its infrastructure to promote equal opportunities for all, reinforcing its dedication to inclusivity and accessibility in higher education.
